STEM Grasshoppers

Calling all curious kids and teens! Get ready to jump into an awesome STEM adventure at Smithfield Library!

Ever wonder how grasshoppers leap so high? We're going to find out and then build our own super-jumping grasshoppers using cool stuff like wood, rubber bands, and pipe cleaners!

In this fun hands-on session, you'll:

  • Learn about the secret 'springs' in grasshopper legs

  • Design and create your own jumping machine

  • Test and improve your grasshopper to make it jump higher

  • Challenge the crew to make your grasshopper leap over a metre into the air!

This workshop is made possible through the support of Cairns Regional Council.
